Communities

Advanced SludgeHammer technology has been well-tested in communities facing critical upgrades. These have ranged from multiple individual installations serving many homes, to cluster systems, and to retrofits of full-sized package treatment plants for communities with central sewers.

Aeration
SludgeHammers suspended in the aeration basin.

This mobile home park with 60 units had been served for 30 years by a Smith & Loveless Aerobic Package plant discharging to leach pits. New leach pits were added every few years to accommodate the 10,000 gpd flow. Finally they had all failed and there was no more room. An initial installation of our first generation product recovered the leach pits, but keeping water quality high was still a challenge. When the time came, our more versatile SludgeHammer gave this system all the oomph it needed. The system now provides trouble-free treatment while protecting the vital existing leach pits.

Installing
Installing in the snow at Silver Lake.

This proved to be a classic installation. The SludgeHammer was installed to recover the sand filter that served this community of 37 homes. The recovery took only 4 months, allowing it to stay well ahead of the 5/6000 gpd load. After 6 months of operation, the owners were delighted to discover the quality of effluent was now high enough to abandon the sand filter altogether. Direct discharge to the leach field was now possible. Today, the SludgeHammer makes this type of installation even more effective, given its extra power.

Dripline
The drip lines go in at Trout Creek.

Trout Creek is a community near a ski resort with 21 buildings, each with 7 condominium units. The buildings were paired, each pair having septic tanks that went to conventional leach beds. These beds were failing and Michigan DEQ wanted to see a new system.

SludgeHammer technology had already proven itself for restoring failed leach fields, but the technology had also demonstrated a capability to dramatically improve the effluent quality, so much so that now it was possible to retrofit an old system like Trout Creek’s and reclaim the valuable water for landscape irrigation.

In the fall of 2005, Trout Creek installed the remainder of the system. Now the entire community is served with SludgeHammers and drip irrigation.

Today, septic treatment quality at Trout Creek is well beyond advanced secondary standards and is now suitable for a GeoFlow drip irrigation system. All thanks to the SludgeHammer Group redesign. Today, nice green playfields are irrigated with rich, aerobic SludgeHammer treated effluent.
